Great blues voices becomes to Hondarribia
Robert Cray, Eric Sardinas and Virginia Labuat are among the figures who will take part in the festival’s 7th edition, to take place on July 12th to the 15th
? The section Hondarribia Cross Road will be dedicated to Chicago, with a wide cast made up by performers such as: Tail Dragger, Eddie Shaw and Zora Young
Three months from the Hondarribia Blues Festival, the contest’s organization presents a preview program for its seventh edition, an appointment that again will gather, by the bay of Txingudi, some of the greatest names in the national and international scene of blues.
Among international performers two major figures stand out: Robert Cray (composer and guitarist, winner of five Grammy awards) and Eric Sardinas (superb guitarist, considered to be a slide guitar virtuoso). It is worth mentioning the special section Hondarribia Crossroads, which, year by year, shows unique and rare performances by several first-line artists, and this year it is dedicated to Chicago. Blues lovers will revel in the unique voices of Tail Dragger, Zora Young and Eddie Shaw accompanied by an exquisite band made up by: Bob Stroger (bass), Kenny Smith (drums), Johnny Iguana (keyboards), Rockin' Johnny (guitar) and Omar Coleman (harmonica).
"Despite the tough times we are going through—explains Carlos Malles from the organization--after much work we were able to launch a new edition of Bluesaldia”. Like in previous years, some of the best international artists will visit Hondarribia, among whom we can count Robert Cray, Eric Sardinas and the gathering of Chicago legends".
“As blues lovers, Chicago is the style we like the most”--adds Malles-- “and for this reason we decided to dedicate our Crossroads section to this blues style. On stage we will gather legends such as Tail Dragger, Eddie Shaw and Zora Young, accompanied by an amazing band made up by Bob Stroger, Kenny Smith, Johnny Iguana and Omar Coleman. This is certainly going to be a great moment in the new edition".
Besides, the confirmed national bands and performers include: Virginia Labuat (with many best seller albums and singles) and the duos Fede Aguado-Osi Martínez (pure Madrid streets blues) and Txus Blues-Jose Bluefingers (two Barcelonans with a broad music career who are known as “the desmystifiers of blues” due to their carefree understanding of this musical genre).
Loyal to their will to support an Euskaldun band in each edition to allow them to share the stage with the great names of blues, Bluesaldia will present the band White Towels, a Guipuzkoa group who, despite the distance, will certainly evoke a pure Chicago south side atmosphere.
Remembering Muddy Waters
The poster for this seventh edition, made by Begoña Ocio, is a tribute to the blues legend Muddy Waters, a master of the genre who--with his low voice and electric guitar-- became a turning point in the history of music.
A drawing of this classic bluesman depicts the image for this year’s contest, also taking blues lovers back to Chicago in the 50s and 60s.
