Ghost Number & Hist Tipsy Gypsies are a mid-2014 born band, created with the idea of exploring popular music while trying to find a new perspective to last century’s roots music. David Pisabarro (a.k.a. 413), front man and banjo-man, managed to join an all-acoustic instruments band (doublebass, violin, trumpet, guitar and percussion) and from that point they haven’t stopped composing, growing and playing in different venues.
One of the main features of the band is the wide range and eclecticism of their repertoire. With a foot supported in country & western, swing and 30’s&40’s blues, they are trying to go deep into less explored but more contemporary fields, implementing influences that come from from Eastern Europe to Haitian calypso. We find that their sets leave an aftertaste to Cab Calloway, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Pokey LaFarge or C.W. Stoneking, all of it mixed with a special appreciation for minor chords.
